“It didn’t go according to plan”: Russian sabotage group blows up Kakhovka HPP, – SBU (audio)
According to the security forces, the audio interception confirms that the dam was blown up by a sabotage group of the occupiers, who did not calculate the likely consequences of the disaster.
The Russian invaders wanted to blackmail Ukraine by blowing up the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. This is evidenced by the conversation between the two occupiers, which was made public by the Security Service of Ukraine.
In the audio, two Russians discuss the bombing of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. One of them says that the dam was blown up by the Ukrainian side, to which his interlocutor explains that the hydroelectric power plant was blown up by a group of Russian saboteurs.
“They didn’t do it. Our sabotage group is there. They wanted to scare us with this dam. But it didn’t go according to plan, but more than they planned,” says the invader.
They discussed that the water from the hydroelectric power plant is consumed by the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which could cause consequences “similar to those in Chernobyl.” One of the occupants also talks about the consequences of the hydroelectric power plant explosion, including the death of many animals in the zoo near the dam.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine opened criminal proceedings on the fact of a war crime committed by the Russian Federation under two articles of the Criminal Code – Art. 438 (violation of the laws and customs of war) and Art. 441 (ecocide).
“By blowing up the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, Russia has finally proved that it is a threat to the entire civilized world. After all, only a true terrorist state can cause a man-made and environmental disaster of this magnitude. And it will definitely be held accountable for this – both on the battlefield and in international courts,” emphasized SBU Head Vasyl Malyuk.
As reported by the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, the Russian Armed Forces also intended to damage the Kyiv hydroelectric power plant, which is located in the area of responsibility of the Kyiv defense forces. According to Nayev, the Kyiv hydroelectric power plant is fully protected from air strikes and attacks by the Russian army’s sabotage and reconnaissance forces.
