It has been confirmed that the relaunch of Disney’s X-Files series is in the works

Ryan Coogler, director of Black Panther, is joining Disney to work on a new X-Files project with a more diverse cast. Disney has announced that the X-Files series, described as a “new version,” is in development.

Currently, the details of the new X-Files project remain largely unknown, but according to Bloomberg, the project is already underway.

X-Files creator Chris Carter said that Ryan Coogler is working on a reimagining of the series. Coogler, who was at the helm of the original Creed and two Black Panther films, plans to introduce a more diverse cast than the original show.

Does this mean that Mulder and Scully won’t be involved in the X-Files relaunch?

Currently, many relaunches take place in the same world as their predecessors, but with a completely new cast. Even if there is a need to involve the original characters in some way, it is usually done with references to characters and events from the original TV show.

With that in mind, it’s possible that Coogler’s X-Files reboot will also continue the franchise with new main characters while keeping guest appearances from the original show’s stars. Or perhaps the return of Mulder and Scully depends on the interest of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

According to Duchovny, for him, the X-Files show consists of Krugler, him, and Anderson. He doesn’t even think about other options for the show. Anderson is also quite categorical in her statements and believes that “X-Files” should either remain in the past or be completely rewritten for her to agree to return to the role of Scully.
