Tests of new Gekata reconnaissance drone started in Ukraine

It will be able to stay in the air for up to 12 hours and detect targets at a distance of up to 450 km

The Infozahyst company is preparing for testing its new development, the Gekata reconnaissance drone.

Gekata is based on the PD-2 unmanned aerial vehicle. The new product boasts a radio intelligence complex. Due to the high position of the antenna during flight, the signal reception horizon is expanded. This makes it possible to detect sources of electromagnetic radiation at distances up to 450 km.

The system is capable of detecting and recognizing signals from enemy assets. It automatically compares the detected signal with a database of signatures and informs the operator whether it is a signal from a Buk, Osa, S-300, or MiG-31 anti-aircraft radar. The UAV also boasts a passive mode of operation of the onboard radio reconnaissance station. This allows the UAV to operate beyond the range of enemy air defense systems. The drone has a vertical takeoff system. It can stay in the air for up to 12 hours and fly up to 1000 km.

When to expect
If the tests are successful, Gekata’s production could begin next year.
