Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminate another Russian Ka-52 helicopter – Air Force
According to Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Mykola Oleshchuk, a Russian Alligator was destroyed by fighters of an anti-aircraft missile unit in the Bakhmut sector.
On Monday, August 14, the Ukrainian Defense Forces downed another Russian helicopter. This was stated in a report by the Ukrainian Air Force.
At about 05:00 in the Bakhmut sector, fighters of an anti-aircraft missile unit also managed to “land” a Russian helicopter.
“The type of helicopter destroyed on August 14, 2023, has been identified. It is an enemy Ka-52 attack helicopter,” the statement said.
In addition, the Defense Forces destroyed 15 Shahed kamikaze attack drones, 8 Kalibr cruise missiles and a Russian helicopter overnight, the Air Force said.
The drones were launched from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk area, and the Kalibr from the Black Sea. Air defense forces managed to destroy all enemy air targets – 15 Shahed and 8 cruise missiles.
Ka-52 helicopter characteristics
The Russian Ka-52 combat helicopter performs a range of tasks. Aviation equipment carries out terrain reconnaissance, targeting and coordination of a group of combat helicopters. The helicopter is capable of engaging armored and unarmored vehicles, manpower and air targets on the battlefield. It is actually a continuation of the development of the Ka-50 Black Shark model.
This model of attack helicopter is considered to be the best in the Russian Aerospace Forces. It is equipped with the Arbalet radar system. The helicopter has an armored capsule for the crew. It can reach a top speed of 350 km/h. The operation started in 2008.
Destruction of Ka-52 helicopters in the war with Russia
Ukrainian defenders regularly shoot down helicopters of this model. In May, soldiers of the 93rd Brigade “Kholodny Yar” destroyed a Russian Armed Forces attack helicopter KA-52 “Alligator”. Ukrainian defenders spotted two Russian attack helicopters flying low overhead. Two Stinger and Golka missiles were launched at the targets, one of which hit the target.
On May 23, the Ukrainian military downed a Russian Ka-52 helicopter. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the Russian budget lost another 16 million US dollars.
