In its first week, Wonka’s film grossed $43 million at the global box office
Although Wonka will be released in theaters in the US on December 15, the film is already available in 37 countries, which helped it earn a good amount of money last week.
Wonka has already raised $43.2 million. In the UK alone, the film earned $11.1 million, the second best result for Warner Bros. in 2023 after Barbie.
In China, however, the film grossed very little – $3.2 million. But this week’s debut in the U.S. and 40 other countries will help the film to get back to its weekend box office.
Wonka is a prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, telling the story of a young and ambitious candy and chocolate maker Willy Wonka, who strives to achieve his goal against all odds. Timothy Chalamet played the lead role. The film received 84% freshness from critics on RottenTomatoes and a budget of $120 million.
