Elon Musk equipped Twitter headquarters with bedrooms for employees

Elon Musk’s “ultra-hardcore” vision for Twitter seems to have manifested itself in the dreary little conference room bedrooms at the company’s recently vacated headquarters, Forbes writes.

Several rooms at Twitter’s headquarters have been converted into small sleeping quarters, according to multiple sources. Employees returning to work at the San Francisco office on Monday found modest bedrooms with unmade mattresses, dim curtains and giant telepresence monitors. One of the rooms has a bonus – a plant. This is a significant improvement over the sleeping bag recently demonstrated by a Twitter employee in November.

A photo of one converted bedroom, shared with Forbes but not published, shows bright orange carpeting, a wooden nightstand and what appears to be a queen-size bed, complete with a desk lamp and two office chairs.

One source said no announcements or explanations were given to workers and suggested the beds were for ‘hardcore’ workers to stay overnight in the office. ‘This is a bad signal. This is another unspoken display of disrespect. There is no discussion. , As well as about the appearance of a bed’ – the source shares with the publication.

Last month, CEO Elon Musk gave thousands of employees who remained at the company the option to leave or stay on the condition that they work intensively on the so-called ‘Twitter 2.0.’ After he became owner and CEO, Musk fired at least half of Twitter’s employees, and even more left voluntarily, after outraged by Musk’s ‘zealousness.’

It’s unclear how many such bedrooms there are, but the source, who Forbes is not identifying for fear of retaliation, suggested there were perhaps ‘four to eight per floor,’ adding that ‘they look comfortable.’

Another source, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, added that several rooms were on the floor, which is mostly empty. They noticed that there was trash in a trash can in one of the rooms, which made it look like someone had already stayed there. ‘People are already staying up late, so it kind of makes sense,’ the source said.

Meanwhile, several former employees, upset over what they say is the company’s reneging on sabbatical package deals, have begun filing numerous lawsuits and arbitrations against Twitter. Contract workers are also frustrated with Musk: On Monday, a group of janitors whose contract with Twitter was not renewed staged a strike outside the company’s office.

In mid-November, Musk tweeted that he would be working and sleeping in corporate offices along Market Street ‘until the organization is fixed.’ However, that tweet has since been deleted.

Musk has previously claimed to have slept on company property before, once tweeting about ‘sleeping at the factory’ in 2018, referring to Tesla’s factory in nearby Fremont, California.

Twitter’s CEO did not respond to a request for comment, nor did its communications department, which appears to have been completely disbanded since Musk’s takeover.

Apparently, for the US, such things look strange, like sleeping at the workplace or having a sleeping bag ‘just in case’ in the office. But in the days of many companies in Ukraine, especially in IT, it is common for some employees to spend the night in the office when an important project needs to be finished. Of course, this trend is becoming a thing of the past due to the popularity of remote work, but due to constant blackouts, some are returning to the practice of sleeping in the office…
