How many HIMARS and M270 MLRS are needed for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to knock out the Russian army from the occupied territories

Western partners are impressed by how the Armed Forces effectively use foreign MLRS on the battlefield.

The presence of hundreds of Western-made missile systems in the Armed Forces will be able to ‘change the rules of the game’ on the battlefield. This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, during a discussion organized by the Atlantic Council on July 19.

Reznikov noted that the MLRS that the Armed Forces received from the Allies had already helped to destroy about 30 objects of the Russian army, which helped to significantly slow down the offensive of the invaders and reduce the intensity of artillery fire from the enemy.

However, to further deter the Russian army, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need at least 50 HIMARS and M270 (‘considering that our front is almost 2,500 km, it’s like the distance between Barcelona and Warsaw,’ – Reznikov), and for a successful counteroffensive, at least 100 missile systems.

In addition, the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces will require additional armored vehicles (mainly armored personnel carriers and BMPs) and reconnaissance drones.

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine emphasizes that currently Ukraine needs to liberate more than 2,500 settlements – more MLRS will allow to destroy the enemy’s logistics and avoid significant losses on the part of the Ukrainian side.
