SBI conducts searches in the premises of the capital’s CHP plants

The Kyiv City State Administration considers this an attempt to paralyze the work of the energy complex during the heating season, Vechirny Kyiv reports.

The official website of the Kyiv City State Administration reported that the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is currently conducting searches at the premises of the capital’s CHP plants, which are critical infrastructure facilities and managed by Kyivteploenergo.

It is reported that investigators are trying to go directly to sensitive energy facilities, access to which is legally restricted under martial law. Moreover, the bureau’s employees are filming at energy facilities, grossly violating security standards, as energy infrastructure is now the main target of the enemy.

At the same time, the SBI case does not directly concern the activities of Kyivteploenergo. In addition, the search warrant does not include the addresses of the physical location of energy facilities. Therefore, the reason for the investigators’ visit to Kyiv CHP is unclear.

The company emphasizes that the searches pose a threat to disrupt the technological process of electricity and heat generation.

Interference with the work of operational staff can lead to unpredictable consequences. Kyiv’s CHPPs are strategically important critical infrastructure facilities that affect not only the life of the capital but also the functioning of the entire energy sector of Ukraine.

During the heating season, CHPP-5 and CHPP-6 provide about 50% of Kyiv’s heat supply and supply electricity to the integrated power system of Ukraine.

Kyivteploenergo is ready to cooperate with the investigators and provide all necessary information. However, he calls on law enforcement officers to act in accordance with the law and martial law and prevent disruptions to critical infrastructure.

We also recall that this is not the first time the SBI has targeted critical infrastructure and, especially, Ukraine’s ability to manufacture weapons for the front line, which is very critical in a time of war. Not so long ago, there was a high-profile scandal involving the paralyzation of the only arms manufacturer in Ukraine, Luch Design Bureau.
