Saudi Arabia promises to build a nuclear bomb if Iran does

At the same time, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia declares that his country does not want to obtain nuclear weapons

Saudi Arabia has warned that it will develop its own nuclear weapons if Iran gets them. This is reported by the BBC. Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud told CBS News that his country does not want nuclear weapons.

At the same time, he added: ‘But without a doubt, if Iran developed a nuclear bomb, we would follow suit as quickly as possible.’

Iran is said to have curbed its nuclear program under a 2015 deal with several world powers, but US President Donald Trump has threatened to withdraw from it.

Saudi Arabia and Iran have long been rivals in the Middle East. Each country is dominated by different branches of Islam – Sunni for Saudi Arabia, Shia for Iran – and they have historically supported opposing forces in regional conflicts. In recent years, tensions have escalated due to the wars in Syria and Yemen.

We will remind that Saudi Arabia and the UAE are ready to ‘significantly increase’ oil production already this winter.
