Tesla cars will get a full autopilot system by the end of the year, but without the ability to use it

The American company Tesla has several times postponed the release of the software to activate the full autopilot system.

An advanced version of the Full Self-Drive software complex will be available for Tesla cars in the United States by the end of this year. It will give the car the ability to move without the driver’s participation. However, owners of Tesla electric cars will not be able to use full autopilot.

Although the update will be released in 2022, the company will not receive approval from regulators to use the system. This was announced by Elon Musk. At the same time, the head of Tesla hopes that in 2023 the manufacturer will be able to convince regulators that the Full Self-Drive complex makes the car safer than a car with a person behind the wheel.

One obstacle for Tesla is the high number of accidents in which the Autopilot system is suspected. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating 38 road accidents in which 19 people died since 2016. But to be fair, the agency of the Department of Transportation and other regulatory bodies of the United States have not yet concluded that the software complex was involved in the accident.

By the way, a number of federal agencies have questions about the name of the function of electric cars. The key claim is that neither Autopilot nor Full Self-Drive, despite the name, can ensure the movement of an electric vehicle without human intervention at all. Although the Tesla company in Germany already managed to win the court and kept the name of the functions.
