Top 3 newest Russian tanks, which the Ukrainians took as a trophy

We are not talking about three units, but about the best examples of equipment that ended up on our side of the battlefield during the fighting.

According to the Dutch publication ORYX, during the hostilities, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to capture more than 200 enemy tanks.

The most massive tanks of the occupiers, which the Ukrainians received as trophies, are the T-72BZ. According to their tactical and technical characteristics, they are similar to the Ukrainian T-64BM ‘Bulat’. However, there were also more rare and newer ones – T-80UE-1, T-90A and T-80UK, which you can read about in more detail.

Т-80UЕ-1

The latest T-80UE-1 can be called a ‘showman’ among Russian tanks because it is constantly demonstrated at various military shows and exhibitions. He spectacularly jumps from the springboard and performs other acrobatic tricks on the training ground, but in real combat conditions he is not much different from his peers.

T-80UE-1 (Object 219АС-1) is a modernized version of the T-80BV and T-80UD tanks, adopted by the aggressor’s army in 2005. At the same time, the chassis was used from the T-80BV, and the combat compartment – from the T-80UD. The tank is equipped with a 1A45 fire control system (KUV) and 9K119 ‘Reflex’ guided missile weapons.

The more such tanks the Ukrainians ‘trophy’ or defeat, the fewest of them will remain in the arsenal of the occupier. After all, under the pressure of sanctions, Russia is not able to continue modernizing tanks to the UE-1 level, and the Rashist army had no more than a battalion of them. Approximately four of them are already in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Т-90А

Russian main battle tank of the third generation. Again, it is a deep modernization of the T-72B series, to improve all combat characteristics of the machine.

The serial modification of the T-90 under the index ‘A’ was produced from 2004 to 2011. It is equipped with a V-92S2 engine with a capacity of 1000 hp, an improved welded turret of increased stability and a 125-mm 2A46M-5 gun. The tank is equipped with the ‘Shtora-1’ COEP — a complex of electronic-optical active protection against high-precision weapons. There is also a complex of built-in explosive dynamic protection – ‘Kontakt-5’.

The booking of the upper front part of the hull was strengthened, the thermal imaging equipment was improved, and a new fire protection system was installed.

Given the number of technical advantages and the value of this tank, it was difficult to imagine that the long-standing epic created around the T-90 is as easily affected by modern weapons as less modern examples.

T-80UK

The T-80UK tank (Object 630А) is a special modernization of the T-80U tank, which is intended for the commander of a tank unit. Only a few units of the T-80UK were produced, and all of them were in the ‘elite’ 4th Kantemiriv tank division.

It is intended to ensure the management of subordinate units, communication with higher commanders, and the conduct of combat operations as part of units and units. Compared to the T-80U tank, the commander’s tank is additionally equipped with a system of remote detonation of high-explosive projectiles, a Shtora optical-electronic suppression complex, a R-163-50K short-wave radio station, TNA-4-3 navigation equipment, and a P28 autonomous power unit with a capacity of 1 kW

Although the aggressor’s army received few such rare copies, they are already in service with our army.
