UAZ ‘Buhanka’ electric car is being developed in Crimea

UAZ-452 or ‘Buhanka’ is the oldest car model among those currently produced in the world. They tried in vain to create its electric version back in the 70s.

In the occupied Crimea, they are working on the electric UAZ-452. A new version of a long-outdated minibus should be presented in the summer of this year. This is reported by TASS.

The UAZ ‘Bukhanka’ electric car is created by the ‘Elkafa’ research and production enterprise. She signed an agreement with UAZ — the company helps in the development and supply of cars without engines.

Tests of the electric car will start in the spring in mountainous and steppe Crimea. After that, it is planned to start converting standard UAZ-452s to electric ones and assembling them in small batches. They also offer to sell sets of power plants so that owners of minibuses can convert them into electric vehicles on their own.

The characteristics of the UAZ-452 with an electric motor are not disclosed, but it is known that the archaic design is not suitable for installing a large battery. It is stated that they are developing a purely electric version and a variant with a gasoline motor-generator, which increases the range.

UAZ-452 SGR, nicknamed ‘Loaf’, is the oldest car model in the world, which is produced today: with minimal changes, it has been produced since 1965. The minibus does not meet modern safety requirements, and recently they began to equip it with an outdated engine of the Euro-0 environmental standard. It is noteworthy that UAZ-452 electric cars were tried to be developed back in the 70s, but the matter did not go beyond the tested batch of 100 cars.

It was previously reported that sanctions against the Russian Federation put an end to the UAZ Hunter electric car. It was developed in the Czech Republic.
